“Act for Humanity”

On the 19th of August each year, we celebrate World Humanitarian Day which was established in 2008 by the United Nations General Assembly and was first officially celebrated in 2009. The date of 19th August was chosen as it marks the anniversary of the bombing of the Canal Hotel in Baghdad, an event that killed 22 humanitarian aid workers, including the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq, Sergio Vieira de Mello.

Every year, the day focuses on a theme, bringing together partners from across the humanitarian system to advocate for the survival, well-being, and dignity of people affected by crises, and for the safety and security of humanitarian workers.

This WHD 2024, the Kenya Red Cross Society calls on everyone to “Act for Humanity.” In times of crisis, every action counts. Our dedicated volunteers and staff tirelessly provide aid, support, and hope to those in need. We honor their commitment and urge you to join us in making a difference. Together, we can create a ripple of positive change and build a more compassionate world.

Stand with us – Act for Humanity.
